A high-end sushi restaurant in Manhattan, New York is seeking a General Manager.
This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the restaurant’s overall service quality, staff management, reservations, guest relations, sales support, and daily operations.
As a fine dining sushi restaurant, the restaurant places strong emphasis on consistency across cuisine, service, atmosphere, hospitality, and every detail of the guest experience. The ideal candidate will be able to understand the full flow of the dining room and lead the team with professionalism, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
In a high-end Japanese restaurant centered around a sushi counter experience, accurate communication with chefs and Japanese-speaking stakeholders is often required. This includes coordination with the kitchen team, understanding menu details, explaining dishes, managing the service flow, handling VIP guests, and training staff.
For this reason, native-level Japanese fluency, or equivalent professional Japanese fluency, is required for this position.
After joining, the General Manager will also be required to participate in training in Japan in order to understand the restaurant concept, service standards, operational procedures, and the hospitality philosophy of the Japan-based restaurant team. The ability to accurately understand training conducted in Japanese and apply those standards to the New York operation will be an important part of this role.
Because this position also involves guest service and team management in English, the ideal candidate must be able to communicate smoothly in both Japanese and English.
Candidates with experience in high-end sushi, omakase, Japanese fine dining, or restaurant management at a premium dining establishment are strongly encouraged to apply.
