A Japanese fine dining group in the San Francisco area is seeking a Sushi Chef / Junior Sushi Chef.
This position is with a sister restaurant of a refined Japanese dining concept that values the spirit of kaiseki, Japanese hospitality, seasonality, and the cultural details behind traditional Japanese cuisine.
This is not only a sushi production role. The restaurant places importance on the broader Japanese culinary experience, including ingredients, preparation, presentation, service flow, and the cultural context behind each dish. For that reason, this position is well suited for someone who wants to deepen their understanding of authentic Japanese cuisine while developing their sushi skills.
Because daily communication with Japanese-speaking chefs and team members may be required, native-level Japanese language ability, or equivalent professional Japanese fluency, is required for this role.
This includes understanding detailed instructions related to preparation, fish handling, sushi techniques, kitchen communication, and coordination with the service team.
The restaurant is not looking only for a fully established senior sushi chef. This opportunity is also open to an early-career sushi chef who has a foundation in sushi or Japanese cuisine and wants to grow in a serious Japanese dining environment.
