A vibrant restaurant in NYC is seeking a Sushi Cook to join the culinary team. This role focuses on preparing sushi rolls and sashimi, with occasional light cooking and frying duties such as tempura or appetizers. Candidates must demonstrate strong technique, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and other dishes
- Handle fish butchery and ensure ingredient freshness
- Cook light dishes (tempura, gyoza, rice, soup, etc.)
- Operate fryers and kitchen equipment safely
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards
- Collaborate with fellow kitchen staff and front-of-house team
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sushi or Japanese kitchen
- Basic knowledge of frying and hot food preparation
- Familiarity with food safety and kitchen sanitation (Food Handler preferred)
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Able to communicate in English and follow verbal/written directions
Salary
Estimated annual income: $47,800–$58,240 (based on $23–$28/hr, commensurate with experience)
Work Schedule
Full-time (approx. 40 hours/week, shift-based)
